More traffic disruption to come

Road to be closed around Newbury Racecourse for bridge parts to be transported

MORE traffic disruption is expected in Newbury as two major roads temporarily close to allow for parts of the new racecourse bridge at Hambridge Road to be transported.

Greenham Road will be closed between its junctions with the A339 and Racecourse Road, while Racecourse Road will be shut between its junctions with Greenham Road and the private entrance to Newbury Racecourse.

The council says that the roads will be closed for the time it takes for the large loads to travel the route – which it estimates will be between 15 and 30 minutes.

Work will take place over two or three days between Thursday, August 27, and September 14 – but the council is still finalising exact dates.

It comes at a time where Boundary Road is also closed.

The large loads will be transported down the M4, into Newbury on the A339 and into Queens Road, Greenham Road, then Racecourse Road.

In a notice published in this week’s Newbury Weekly News, the council says the closure is to allow for components of a new railway bridge and equipment to be transported to and from the site.

It adds that no waiting, loading or unloading will be allowed on the roads for eight hours before and including the movement, and that any vehicle impeding the route will be removed.

The council has said that it does not expect the order to affect residents’ ability to park.
