Mortimer housing development named after former councillor

Councillor Keith Lock passed away in 2011 after serving the residents of West Berkshire for 38-years.
The Liberal Democrat councillor, who was born in Welling, Kent, moved to Mortimer in 1969 and sat on West Berkshire Council from its formation in 1998, having also served on its predecessor, Newbury District Council, since it was formed in 1973.
He served as leader on both councils, from 1994 to 1997 and 1999 to 2001, and as chairman, from 1993 to 19944 and 2003 to 2004.
The current chairman of West Berkshire Council, Adrian Edwards, said: “Councillor Lock gave a great deal to the community and is fondly remembered and respected by his colleagues at West Berkshire Council and by many local people he helped.
“He was renowned for his passion, wisdom, calmness and consideration and the naming of this development is a mark of respect to him."
The housing development, off West End Road, will be named Keith Lock Gardens.
