Mother and daughter don Teletubbies costumes to climb Mount Snowdon
Rhiannon Phillips, 15, and her mother Louise, 52, from Bradfield Southend, successfully scaled Mount Snowdon dressed as Tinky Winky and Laa-Laa from hit kids TV show The Teletubbies.
They managed to climb the 3,560 ft mountain in three and a half hours and took around two and a half hours to get back down to base.
The pair did it because Rhiannon needs to raise £3,800 to take part in an expedition to Uganda with Kennet School in the summer of 2015 in order to do community development and conservation work.
In order to reach her goal, Rhiannon has been doing a variety of fundraising activities, such as car boot sales, Easter egg hunts, cake sales, and has volunteered her services in the local area doing car washing, babysitting and dog walking.
Even though Rhiannon had an operation on her foot in January, she was determined to complete the climb.
Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News this week, Louise Phillips said: “I wanted to do all that I could do help Rhiannon towards her fundraising target - even if it meant dressing up like that.
“People had a bit of a smile but were very encouraging. When we got to the summit everyone started cheering and saying here comes Tinky Winky and Laa-Laa. It was good fun.”
The youngster made around £800 from the climb itself and has raised around half of her fundraising target in total.
She has a website - www.rhiannonsugandaexpedition.co.uk on which people can donate, and has also been giving out sponsor forms.
