Motorcyclist, 70, dies in crash on A339 in Newbury - Thames Valley Police appeal for witnesses
A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Newbury.
The man, who was 70 and from the Isle of Wight, was riding a blue Piaggio motorbike when it was involved in a collision with a white DAF flatbed lorry on the A339 yesterday (Wednesday).
Thames Valley Police said officers received a report at 12pm of a collision on the A339 Basingstoke Road in Newtown near Newbury.
The road was closed in both directions, close to the junction with the B4640, for several hours yesterday afternoon.
The man was declared dead at the scene and, although formal identification has not yet taken place, the man’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made, but they are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Investigating officer Sergeant Sarah Davies, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the motorcyclist who has sadly died in this collision.
“I am appealing for any witnesses who saw what happened and have not already spoken to the police to please come forward.
“I am also keen to speak to any motorists who have captured footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it on their dash-cams.”
