The 40-year-old, of Stoney Lane, Thatcham, is charged with being in charge of a Mercedes Vito in Bracknell on Friday, May 31, after drinking more than the legal limit.

Tests are said to have shown 49mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

The legal limit is 35mcg.

Mr Peaty spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the single charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

Mr Peaty was meanwhile released on unconditiona bail.
