The 28-year-old, of Great Crescent, Newbury, is accused of driving a Volkswagen Touran carelessly, thereby causing serious injury to Melvin Czapalski, on Western Avenue, Newbury, on May 5 last year

Mr Mildenhall spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the single charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned while a trial was arranged.

Mr Mildenhall, who was legally represented by Michael Phillips, was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
