Watch the moment Bucklebury man Brendan Banham, who was jailed for dangerous driving, is pursued by police after failing to stop

A police car chase resulted in a crash after the fleeing motorist resorted to dangerous driving.

The drama was triggered by an incident in Thatcham.

And on Thursday, July 17, Brendan Banham from Briff Lane, Bucklebury, was jailed by Reading magistrates as a result.

The court heard how, on Wednesday, July 9, the 22-year-old was driving a silver Ford Fiesta in Thatcham which failed to stop for police.

It was later seen by officers on Amblecote Road in Tilehurst.

On seeing police, the car drove away erratically and at speed before crashing into a second car on Burghfield Road a short time later.

Banham tried to flee the scene on foot but was arrested soon after.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He also has previous convictions, the court heard.

Banham was jailed for nine months.

He was also banned from driving for two years and will have to pass an extended driving test before he gets his licence back.

Afterwards, investigating officer PC Matthew Fairman said: “We are pleased that Banham will now face the consequences of his selfish and reckless actions in prison.

“Thankfully nobody was injured, but this incident could have had much more serious consequences.

“Dangerous driving has serious long-term consequences beyond imprisonment, including losing your job, facing increased car-insurance costs and changing the lives of those that you may injure as a result of your actions.

“By driving dangerously, you immediately pose a threat to the safety of yourself, your passengers, other drivers and pedestrians. And if found guilty, the consequences could last a lifetime.

“It’s never worth the risk.”
