Consequently the 23-year-old, of Horse Guards Way, Thatcham, was charged with careless driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop following an accident in which three other cars were damaged, and failing to report the accident, all in Crofton Hackett, Worcestershire, on January 29, 2022.

At a previous court hearing – at which he failed to turn up – he was convicted of all the above offences in his absence.

At a sentencing hearing at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 11, district judge Samuel Goozee made Mr Palmer subject to an 18-month community order with a requirement that he complete 120 hours of unpaid community work.

In addition, Mr Palmer was ordered to pay £625 costs, plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £95.

Finally, he was banned from driving for six months.
