Motorists could face delays on local roads
Some abnormally large loads are being transported through West Berkshire and North Hampshire in the coming weeks
MOTORISTS are being warned of possible traffic delays in West Berkshire and North Hampshire in the coming weeks, due to some large load transportations.
On six different two-day periods this month, starting on Thursday (January 13), Teahan Convoi Service will transport large silos from the old Courage brewery in Reading to Southampton docks, causing likely delays on various local roads while the convoy passes through the area.
Each load will take two days to transport, starting each day at about 9.30am.
The route, which has been agreed by West Berkshire Council, Hampshire County Council, Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Police, will see the loads transported from Reading to Tot Hill on day one and from Tot Hill to Southampton on day two, escorted by police and experienced pilot/escort vehicle teams at all times.
Utility company engineers will also be on hand to ensure overhead cables are kept clear of the loads.
West Berkshire Council has warned that motorists should be aware of possible localised delays while the convoy passes through the district, while the company has asked for cooperation and assistance from roads users to keep roads clear to help minimise the inconvenience.
The routes are as follows:
Day 1 - Reading to Tot Hill
A33 North along Rose Kiln Lane - A4 Berkeley Avenue - A4 Bath Road - Across M4 at junction 12 - Around Thatcham via Floral Way, Heath Lane, Bowling Green Road and Tull Road - Rejoin A4 - Newbury - A339 south - B4640 Tot Hill.
Day 2: Tot Hill to Southampton
Tot Hill - White Hill - A34 - Larks Barrow Hill - Approaching Whitchurch, Newbury Road - Newbury Street - Winchester Street - Winchester Road - Exit Whitchurch - A34 - Bullington Lane - Bypass Road - Oxford Road - Winchester Hill - Christmas Hill - Andover Road - Sussex Street - Romsey Road - A3090 - Hook Road - Hursley Road - Bournemouth Road - A33 Bassett Avenue - A35 Winchester Road - A35 Trebourba Way - Millbrook Road West - First Avenue - Southampton Dock Gate 20.
The loads will be transported on the following dates:

Monday, January 17 - Reading to Tot Hill (two loads in convoy)
Tuesday, January 18 - Tot Hill to Southampton (two loads in convoy)

Friday, January 21 - Tot Hill to Southampton (two loads in convoy)
Monday, January 24 - Reading to Tot Hill (two loads in convoy)
