By 12pm, all lanes were fully re-opened.
The accident, involving two vehicles, happened just after 8am on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 12 (Theale) and junction 11 (Reading).
Following the accident, all three lanes of the motorway in both directions were closed to allow the air ambulance to land.
The westbound carriageway re-opened just after 9am, the air ambulance left at 9.23am and two lanes of the eastbound carriageway were re-opened shortly afterwards.
One lane is currently still closed and motorists should expect an extra 60 minutes on their travel time.
