MP offers advice on passport renewals
Her Majesty’s Passport Office are currently dealing with what it says is the highest demand for passports in 12 years.
The backlog of applications has seen people having to wait beyond the standard three week turnaround time.
The Passport Office said that it had been experiencing an ‘exceptional early summer demand’ for passports and that ‘significant’ additional staff have been brought in.
Mr Benyon said many people in his constituency had contacted his office in respect of outstanding applications.
He said: “Whilst my office has had some success in dealing with HMPO over the past few weeks, I can offer no guarantee that I will be successful in every case.
“My advice is therefore twofold. If you have submitted your application to HMPO, refrain from continually contacting HMPO as this is exacerbating the situation. Once logged, your application will be processed.
“If you are travelling within the next 10 days and have not heard from HMPO, please contact my office and my team and I will do all we can to ensure that your application is processed in time.”
