Multiculture fest to be held at Racecourse





CultureFest 2014 will celebrate the region’s ethnic diversity through music, dance, food, exhibitions, workshops, stalls and arts and crafts
There will be Indian drumming with The Dhol Player Collective, dance performances from Helen Santa Maria Belly Dancers, Reading Chinese School, Thai Dancers, Kala The Arts, and Palestinian Dabek with Al Zaytouna Dance Theatre.
Local musicians Odis Palmer and Three Letter Agency will perform their own tracks; there will be Djembe drumming with Graeme Goodwin and Rhythmworks, plus music fusion with Mark Turauskis with Iqbal Pathan and Charles Spicer.
There will also be a wide variety of trade stalls, workshops, demonstrations and activities including Coco Henna Art, Newbury Wellbeing Centre, Angie Taher Ceramics, a fruit smoothie bike, fruit and soap carvings, local charities, inflatables and other activities for children.
Visitors can sample world cuisine including Malaysian, Indian, Pakistani and Egyptian.
Culinary delights will include Brazilian crepes, Mexican tacos, Thai green curry and Afro-Caribbean puff-puffs, as well as cakes, cookies and macaroons.
The festival, supported by the Greenham Common Trust and Sovereign Housing, is the sixth annual flagship event of All2gether, the West Berkshire Minority Ethnic Forum.
CultureFest 2014 will take place at the racecourse on Saturday, July 12, from 12pm until 4pm.
One of the organisers, Waheeda Soomro, said: “We invite everyone to absorb and enjoy an afternoon of colourful art, entertainment and participation - this is a truly diverse and unique local community event and it’s not to be missed.”
