Multiple people hospitalised and unaccounted for after fatal Reading fire

Thames Valley Police are still searching for multiple unaccounted people following the fatal fire this morning (Wednesday) at Rowe Court, Reading.

Officers were called to the scene in Grovelands Road, on the east side of Tilehurst, at 2.56am.

At least one person is confirmed to have died in the blaze at a block of flats, and a 31-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of arson and murder.

Three people have been taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Moreover, ambulance crews treated eight people on the scene, and a number were evacuated to be cared for by the local authority and its partners.

A man has spoken of his escape from the blaze, leaping from the third floor of the burning building.

A statement posted on Thames Valley Police Reading's Facebook page reads: "We are working with our colleagues on a search and rescue operation and will exhaust all our efforts to find signs of life.

"We expect this phase of the operation to continue today and into the evening and perhaps beyond."
