Resurrection ‘miracle’ at West Berkshire pub
The deed is done for another year.
For the 47th year the troupe of Aldworth Mummers, in face-obscuring dress to maintain traditional anonymity, fetched up on Saturday night to play out their annual winter revels outside The Bell Inn, to a crowd who were full of good cheer.
All in verse, the comedic morality tale that dates back centuries unfolded, as a Turkish knight came to challenge… but after some nifty swordplay was vanquished by gallant St George.
A quack doctor performed a ‘miracle’ and resuscitated the slain infidel with his magic potion. Good once again triumphs over evil.
The crowd enjoyed hot mince pies courtesy of The Bell and returned inside to sup the ale. Tradition had been observed and all’s well in the Ridgeway village of Aldworth for another year, before that troublesome Turk returns.
