Murder trial into 1966 death starts today (Wednesday)
Seventeen-year-old Yolande Waddington, pictured in a school photo during her time at St Gabriel’s School in Sandleford Priory, was killed in Beenham in 1966, but it was not until November last year that police charged someone with her murder.
Former Beenham man, David Burgess, aged 64, has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to one count of murder at two previous hearings at Reading Crown Court.
His trial is scheduled to start at the same court today (Wednesday), and is expected to last between four and six weeks.
Miss Waddington’s body was found yards from a barn at Hall Place Farm in Clay Hill, Beenham, on October 30, 1966.
Miss Waddington had only moved to Beenham from Newbury five days before her death.
At the time, Miss Waddington's death rocked the quiet village of Beenham and brought it unprecedented media attention. Follow the murder trial of Mr Burgess on Newburytoday.co.uk and in our sister paper the Newbury Weekly News.
