Murder trial of 1966 Beenham death starts today (Monday)
Former Beenham man David Burgess, aged 64, is charged with the murder of 17-year-old Yolande Waddington, who was found dead in Beenham in 1966.
At the time, Miss Waddington’s death hit the national headlines, with an unprecedented police investigation, which included blood samples being taken from every male in Beenham between the age of 16 and 50.
Miss Waddington, pictured during her time as a pupil at St Gabriel’s School, Newbury, was killed on October 30, 1966.
Her body was found yards from a barn at Hall Place Farm in Clay Hill, Beenham.
It was not until last November that police charged someone with her murder, nearly 46 years after she died.
The jury was sworn in last Wednesday (June 13), but Mr Justice Andrew Nicol ordered that evidence-giving should begin today (Monday).
The trial is expected to last between four and six weeks.
