Thinking man's monk, Fr Christopher Jamison to give Reflections at Douai
The traditional Music and Reflections for Good Friday will take place at Douai Abbey today at 8pm. The lay-choir of the abbey, the Douai Abbey Singers, directed by John Rowntree, will perform the Stabat Mater of Charpentier, together with works by Michael Haydn, Colin Mawby, John Duggan – a newly commissioned setting of the Ave verum – Pablo Casals and Hernando Franco. The Reflections are usually given by monks of Douai Abbey but this year they will be given by Fr Christopher Jamison, until recently Abbot of Worth. Fr Jamison, often referred to as ‘the thinking man's monk', is well-known not just for his writings, but for his broadcasts on TV and radio.
