Music, competitions and animals at Thatcham school fete

Music was the theme at St Finian's fete at which there was also a goose that the pupils raised themselves

THE Parent, Teacher and Friend Association of St Finian's School held a summer fete in the gardens of the neighbouring St Gabriel's Convent, Cold Ash.

Music was the theme of the fete and former pupils from the school returned for the day with their group Into the Chaos to kick off the entertainment, followed by Cold Ash Brass Juniors and recitals by musicians from Kennet School, Thatcham.

Ashampstead Butcher Vicars Game ran the barbecue and there was a licensed bar and homemade afternoon teas.

There was plenty of activities for children, from a bouncy assault course to a farm animal petting corner, as well as duck racing, electric go karts, and watching the teachers in a sumo wrestling competition.

The association's chairwoman, Carol Maleham, said that the day was fantastic and that the money, which has not been counted yet, would be put towards improvements to the existing school and developing the new building, which is due to be completed in September.
