Music legends Madness to play at Newbury Racecourse in September

Band will perform after Dubai Duty Free International Meeting

MUSIC legends Madness will perform at Newbury Racecourse in September.

The band will provide the entertainment after the racing on September 19, the second day of the Dubai Duty Free International Meeting.

Madness are no strangers to Newbury, having performed at the racecourse in 2009.

This year’s gig will coincide with the band’s Grandslam Madness Tour, their biggest series of outdoor live shows to date.

In the last few years, the band has also performed at the Queen’s diamond jubilee concert and at the Olympic Games closing ceremony, cementing them as one of the nation’s favourites.

Racecourse CEO Julian Thick said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Madness back after a gap of six years, on September 19.

“The band has enjoyed a real resurgence in recent times, and given the welcome they enjoyed in 2009, I’m sure it will be a great day combining the best of British music with the best of British racing.”

Madness frontman Suggs (aka Graham McPherson) added: “Racecourses are great. We’ve played a few in the past where there have been a few races and then you get a bit of Madness.

“It’s an unbeatable combination.”

Preceding the music is a top-class eight-race card worth almost £300,000, featuring the Group Two Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes, one of the more important races of the season for two year olds.

Racing is scheduled to start at 1.15pm with the last race at 4.35pm and the Madness concert commencing shortly after.
