Mystery of abandoned car on fire at Halfway

According to Richard Cooper the manager of Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one fire engine was called at 1am to the A4 at Halfway, to a fire in a Volkswagon Golf.
“No-one was trapped and no-one was at the scene. The car was smoking, we made it safe,” said Mr Cooper, adding the fire service left the scene after about half an hour.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman, Rebecca Webber, said police were called at 1am on Monday (July 23) by a member of the public, who had found a black Volkswagon Golf blocking the A4 Bath Road at Halfway, after it appeared to have been in a collision.
“There was no-one with the car, which had not collided with any other vehicle, and police arranged for it to be recovered. Work is underway to trace the registered owner of it,” said Ms Webber.
