Naked golfers complete 24-hour marathon
This cheeky quartet completed a 24-hour charity golf marathon - with one hole played in the buff.
General manager at Deanwood Park Golf Course at Stockcross, John Bowness, joined members Kevin Holloway and regulars Marc Gudgeon and Mark Brown in a 24-hour golf marathon.
And Mr Bowness revealed: “Someone offered to give us £300 if we did one hole completely naked.”
The team took to the fairways at 7pm last Thursday night with a crowd of well wishers on hand under their umbrellas.
Mr Bowness said: “The early weather was horrendous and matters took a turn for the worse when the buggies both decided not to work in the dark and had to be reversed back to the clubhouse.
“The rest of the night was played on foot using luminous balls and glow sticks to light the way.”
The morning brought not only new buggies and sunshine but professional photographer Adam Hillier and his assistant Graham Chapple who turned up at 5.30am to capture the four stripped to their birthday suits.
Mr Bowness added: “We actually got enough different shots that we may well produce a fun calendar to boost the sponsorship.”
With their clothes back on and the sun shining, the foursome ploughed on through the day, receiving lots of visits from family and friends.
A huge welcome was waiting to help celebrate the achievement, which raised the £4,600 for The Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust
Trust administrator Helen Milroy said “We’re very grateful to John, Kevin, Marc and Mark for the fantastic amount they have managed to raise. Under normal summer conditions, 24 hours of non-stop golf would be challenging, but the atrocious weather they had to withstand was beyond a joke.
“It would have been completely understandable if they had decided to cancel the challenge, but through sheer guts and determination, they persevered and showed their mettle. The money they have raised will help many West Berkshire Residents dealing with cancer and we thank them for their achievement.“
The page for donations remains open for the next three weeks and anyone wishing to boost the total can go to

He said: “The four of us would like to express a huge thank you to all of the donors, the staff at Deanwood, Adam Hillier Photography and family and friends for their support throughout this event."
