National spotlight on Newbury pub ghost video

Flagship ITV daytime show discusses Jack O’Newbury ghost video

OUR spooky video of strange goings-on at the Jack O'Newbury pub in Newbury was the talk of Britain last week as it was broadcast on national television.

Last Thursday, March 3, national self-styled ghost hunter Barrie John discussed footage first shown on our website, Newburytoday.co.uk with hosts of ITV's This Morning, Philip Scofield and Holly Willoughby.

The Cheap Street pub, a Grade II listed building and former coaching inn, was known as The Catherine Wheel since at least 1761 and is included in the Department of the Environment List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historical Interest.

Bar staff throughout the years have often insisted the building is haunted and on Saturday, February 30, two glasses flew off a shelf as manager Summer Lancaster walked past.

The incident was captured on the pub's internal CCTV system.

Since then, she said, amateur paranormal investigators have been staying late, setting up equipment said to detect unearthly presences and avidly discussing their findings.

Photographs have captured strange, misty images and temperatures have been shown to inexplicably plummet at times, said Miss Lancaster.

Meanwhile Philip Scofield professed himself unconvinced by the footage - but Barrie John said floating orbs such as those in the video were sometimes evidence of spirit activity.
