Nature Discovery Centre gets Thatcham buzzing about bees
Families and friends had an unbeelievable day at the Nature Discovery Centre learning about pollinators earlier this month.
Dozens turned out for the World Bee Day event on May 20 at the centre in Thatcham, including the Newbury & District Beekeepers Association, bee enthusiasts and everybody else who is buzzing about bees.
Some hosted stalls selling jars of local honey and other sweet goodies.
Visitors also had the chance to learn about the ancient art of beekeepers, otherwise known as apiarists.
They also heard about honeybees and solitary bees that provide vital pollination services to the world.
Assistant manager at the NDC for the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust Hazel Fell said: “We were delighted to celebrate World Bee Day at the NDC.
“It was fantastic to engage with so many people about the plight bees and other pollinators are in, and for them to learn about the benefits that bees bring to the environment.
“We had a range of great displays including a live hive of bees, bee crafts, children’s activities and other information displays.”
She added: “We were also so pleased to have Rachel Brown selling her beautiful bee-inspired products and Plant for Pollinators, encouraging people to plant bee-friendly plants in their gardens.
“Many thanks to everyone who attended.”
