New charity campaign to highlight ‘truth about carrying a knife’ launched in Hampshire
Hampshire’s young people are the target of a new campaign highlighting the dangers of carrying a knife.
Fearless, the youth service of Crimestoppers, has launched a campaign this week to reduce knife crime in the county.
The campaign aims to dispel the myths associated with knife carrying and to educate young people and the wider community about how they can anonymously report knife crimes without fear of retribution.
A free online training session will take place later this month for professionals working with young people in Hampshire to learn more about the anonymous reporting service.
The session will cover the difference between ‘snitching’ and reporting and the Bystander Approach. An ‘active bystander’ chooses to take appropriate action against behaviour that is not acceptable.
Hampshire regional manager for Crimestoppers, Beth Simpson, said: “Our charity takes crime information anonymously and passes on what we’re told.
“We are proud of our independence from the police and our guarantee of protecting the identity of everyone who contacts us.”
