New deli for Newbury?

Applicant, Nice Theory Sunshine Limited, wants to turn the former shop in Bridge Street into a delicatessen trading as Oldbury’s Deli.
The applicant is seeking to change the use to A1/A3 to accommodate take-away customers too.
The unit is currently vacant and has been for more than 18 months when it was last occupied as Cotton Traders except for a brief period last December when it was used as a pop-up Christmas shop.
A statement on behalf of the applicant said: “This will be the first Oldbury’s Deli store and we are proud to be opening it in our adopted home town of Newbury.
“We firmly believe that there is a future for our nation’s High Streets and that independent retailers have a place in arresting and reversing their decline.
“Our delicatessen will appeal to traditional values whilst catering for modern tastes, adding a dimension to the retail offering of Newbury high street which is sorely lacking.”
A date for the final decision by West Berkshire Council has been set for January 23.
