New director of Corn Exchange appointed
The new director of the Newbury arts venue will take over in March
A NEW director of The Corn Exchange, Newbury, and New Greenham Arts has been appointed.
Three months after the departure of Nick Giles, the former director of the music and arts venue in the Market Pace, the board of trustees has announced that his replacement will be Katy Griffiths, who is to take up her position in March.
Ms Griffiths comes to Newbury after seven years as the artistic programmer for Ambassador Theatre Group's West End venues. More recently, she was part of the London Theatre team at Arts Council England.
She said: “I am delighted to be joining the Corn Exchange and New Greenham Arts in Newbury.
“I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead the excellent team at the theatre, and look forward to building on the organisation's current success."
Chairman of the Corn Exchange board, Lord Carnarvon, of Highclere Castle estate, led the recruitment process. He said: “I am thoroughly delighted that Katy has accepted the role of director at the Corn Exchange and New Greenham Arts.
“The calibre of applicants was very high, with a range of backgrounds, but Katy's impressive experience in theatre, coupled with an excellent balance of creativity, knowledge and personal skills make her the ideal person to lead the organisation going forward.”
Mr Giles resigned from his post at The Corn Exchange in November to become executive producer at London's Donmar Warehouse.
