New double deck buses in Newbury

Reading Transport is re-launching its Vitality 1 service as 'Jet Black' with six new double deck buses

NEWBURY bus users may soon find themselves travelling on a new ‘Jet Black' double deck bus between Newbury and Reading.

Reading Transport is re-launching its Vitality 1 service under the new name of Jet Black tomorrow (Monday), which will see six new 80-seater double deck buses join the fleet, all of which will be fitted with seatbelts and come with free wi-fi, voice announcements of the next stop and on-screen displays with similar information.

The re-launch forms part of the bus company's continuing development of the Reading to Newbury corridor, which has been growing in passenger numbers over the past two years, and the chief executive officer of Reading Transport, James Freeman, said the new buses should provide an added boost.

He said: “This change is the ultimate development of that process which has not only included improved service levels but also the use of better quality buses.

“The wi-fi should give customers an amazing boost and the buses should offer a greater comfort and security with the seatbelts.”

The Jet Black service will be provided for Reading Transport by Newbury & District, who have been operating Reading Transport's Vitality 1 service between Newbury and Reading since last November.
