New evidence in Newbury sex attack case

Investigations continue into sexual assault on woman walking with buggy in Speen

POLICE say they are investigating new forensic evidence following a sexual assault in Newbury.

The attack happened in Shaw Road, Newbury, at about 1pm on May 30, when a 22-year-old woman who was walking along the canal path with a one-year-old child in a buggy was grabbed from behind.

Thames Valley Police arrested a 26-year-old man from the Newbury area earlier this month on suspicion of the sexual assault and of exposure on the A4 at Speen on March 30 and near Shaw House in Church Road, Newbury, on March 8, but he was later released without charge due to insufficient evidence.

Meanwhile, police are also appealing for information about a similar attack which occurred in Priors Court Road, Hermitage, at about 10pm on May 27.

A 38-year-old woman went to cross the road but was grabbed from behind by a stranger.

The woman managed to break free and ran towards the village where she called the police.

Anyone with any information about any of these incidents is urged to call Thames Valley Police on 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
