New hotel opens in Newbury
The mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, has officially opened the third Travelodge hotel in the Newbury area today (Tuesday)
THE mayor of Newbury, Jeff Beck, has today (Tuesday) officially opened the town's third Travelodge hotel.
Mr Beck cut the ribbon to open the new £2.7m 67-bedroom hotel on London Road, which has created 12 new jobs in the local area, all of which have been recruited via the Job Centre Plus Scheme that helps the long-term unemployed back into work.
The hotel, which has been built on the site of the former Texaco petrol station, is Travelodge's third in the Newbury area - the other two are located at Tot Hill services and Chieveley services - and brings the budget hotel chain's room stock to 250 rooms across the town.
The manager at the new hotel, Kim Hanekom, said: “I am so thrilled that our third hotel opening has made us the biggest branded budget hotelier in Newbury.
“The town is rapidly growing and there is a huge demand for low cost, good quality accommodation from business and leisure visitors.
“We still believe there is more potential to further expand in Newbury and we are looking for more sites.”
Meanwhile, Travelodge said its booking data showed the hotel was off to a good start, with the hotel sold out for the weekend of the Dubai Summer Festival at Newbury Racecourse in July.
