New indoor market to open in Kennet Centre in Newbury
A new indoor marketplace offering spaces to local businesses and sellers is set to open soon in the Kennet Shopping centre.
Called Newbury Indoor Market, it will offer spaces and amenities for sellers to advertise and sell their products.
The market, which will be run by We Buy, We Sell, We Trade Limited, will be located in the old Peacocks store. The unit boasts around 20,000 sq ft of space.
The organisers hope that the market can host up to 50 stalls at a time.
They already have around 10 to 15 small businesses who are excited to get involved once the space opens.
Speaking to Newbury Weekly News, Thomas Whiting, who has approval to use the unit, said it would provide an “excellent opportunity for local sellers and businesses to sell their products in a low cost, straightforward way”.
He said it also gives people an opportunity to try something new with "very little risk".
Mr Whiting said: “Ultimately, we want to create a good atmosphere for the community.
"It would also help people get some exposure and business and can benefit everyone.
"Currently, the Kennet Centre has struggled due to the pandemic so it would be nice to see some new sellers and new ideas in the area.”
Mr Whiting said the space could also be used for a Santa's grotto during the Christmas period, for food stalls, and could host small community events.
Mr Whiting has always been a market trader and wanted to extend his passion for market trading in Newbury. He believes that having this space is a good way to do that due to its no hidden costs, straightforward approach.
He is currently looking for more sellers and small businesses who are keen to open a market stall. He wants a wide range of products and services to attract different demographics.
Sellers can apply for a spot in the market online via the Newbury Indoor Market Facebook page.
Prices to set up a stall start from £10 a day, all inclusive. The new venue will be providing WiFi, storage space, amenities and other essentials for the businesses that will be set up there.
Mr Whiting is actively trying to encourage fresh food sellers and flower stalls to apply for a spot in the indoor market.
