New iPhone 5 goes on sale in Newbury today (Friday)
Thousands of people around the world queued for the new phone this morning, but it would appear the majority of West Berkshire mobile phone users decided to pre order their iPhone 5.
Apple announced pre-orders of its iPhone 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S.
The Newbury branch of 3 Store in Cromwell Road said it has sold out of the new phone, but is taking pre-orders for its next delivery next month.
Member of staff at the store, Charlotte Keech said: “We’ve had many pre orders and people are coming in to collect their phones today on an appointment only basis.
“We are now taking pre orders for out next delivery on October 2.”
Meanwhile, there were queue outside Phones4u in Northbrook Street, albeit on a smaller scale to those seen in other cities, with just five people outside the store before it opened this morning.
As of 12pm today, the Newbury branch confirmed it does have extra iPhone 5s in stock.
The iPhone 5 has a larger four-inch screen than its predecessor, the iPhone 4, as well as being lighter and thinner with an Apple A6 processor.
