The Red Lion will reopen under new ownership
The Red Lion pub in Upper Basildon will reopen soon.
The 17th-century inn is set to reopen under new management in December following a period of closure.
A new landlady has taken charge and is currently installing a kitchen and conducting other maintenance works at the property.
Local residents have rejoiced at the news, with one saying: "Brilliant news, can't wait to come over. This village needs a pub."
"Great news. Let's make sure we give the new team plenty of custom," said another.
The previous landlord of seven years, Rafi Razzak, announced his departure from the pub online earlier this year.
"The impact of Covid, along with the sharp increase in costs and wages, has made it impossible to keep the pub open," he said.
