New managing director in the saddle at Newbury News Limited

Mr Gurney, aged 38, takes over from Adrian Martin, who held the post for the family-owned publishing and printing company in West Berkshire for 12 years before his departure at the end of December 2013.
Before taking up his post in Newbury today (Monday), Mr Gurney, who has a degree in Business Management and Law from Brunel University, was a consultant to Local World Media, a strategic role with the aim of improving commercial activity, growing and retaining revenues, together with staff development and brand strategy.
Previously, he was commercial director for Archant Anglia, looking after some of the country’s largest regional daily newspapers, including the Eastern Daily Press and the East Anglian Daily Times.
Over a period of nine years he was group sales director and publishing director for Iliffe News and Media Limited, responsible for a mix of weekly, daily and monthly free and paid-for titles with a turnover of £15m.
He also oversaw three acquisitions and launched new titles.
Mr Gurney, who is married with two young children said this week: “I am excited to be coming to Newbury and to be joining such a well-known and long-established family business.
"I am looking forward to working with the local community and helping to strengthen our businesses still further in the future.
“The success within Newbury News Limited is very much down to the team working in it and I am very much looking forward to working with them and working towards even greater success in the future.”
Chairman of Newbury News Limited, Jeremy Willis, said: “Adrian Martin departs Newbury with our best wishes and great appreciation for what he has achieved with our company over the last 12 years.
“He has led us through major changes in our format, guided us through a recession, installed a new press and seen through many other major activities over his years of loyal service.
“He leaves the company on a solid footing for his replacement James Gurney whom in which we have confidence can pick up the reins and steer our publishing and printing business into the future.”
