And Mr Lesser is celebrating in style on Saturday (May 31) with a special birthday party at the restaurant.

There will be a DJ and as much pasta as revellers can eat. Tickets cost £37 and include a welcome drink and dessert.

The restaurant also now enjoys a new name – and signage to match. Named after its founder, Mr Lesser, it is now called Hugo’s Gourmet Pasta.

He added: “It’s been an incredible year.

“We’ve served thousands of happy customers, honed our menu, and garnered rave reviews for our delicious, innovative fresh pasta in the heart of Newbury's historic Market Place.

“We’ve also run lots of experiences and events, including pasta-making classes, live jazz and salsa nights.

“However, when we asked our customers what we could do to be even better, they told us to broaden our menu, and change our name.

“Many ideas later, we’re making it more simple and personal, and rebranding as Hugo’s Gourmet Pasta, or just Hugo’s for short.

“To celebrate our first birthday, we’re throwing a pasta party on Saturday 31st May, with a DJ and limitless fresh pasta.

The new broader menu also now includes pizza and new mains such as empanadas, aubergine parmigiana, gamberi alla busara and pork cotoletta milanese.
