Growing Newbury Green planting new micro orchard in Roebuts Close this weekend
A Newbury gardening group has announced the location and date of its next orchard planting following positive feedback from the local community.
Growing Newbury Green will be holding a community tree planting day on Saturday, February 12 at 10am at the proposed site in Roebuts Close.
The group is encouraging residents from Roebuts Close and the surrounding area to attend so they can help in the planting of their community’s new micro orchard.
Growing Newbury Green member Tony Hammond said: “We had 31 responses to our consultation in January about this proposal and all of them were positive.”
Six trees will be planted at the event and households may be asked to mix together when planting dependant on the numbers.
Mr Hammond also said: “We will try to accommodate everyone who may still be feeling vulnerable or unsettled with groups of people, but we would suggest helpers arrive early as possible.
“With a good set of volunteers we can plant trees very quickly.”
Growing Newbury Green is also planning to plant an edible hedge that will include raspberries, blackberries and hazelnuts at their Barn Crescent orchard on Sunday, March 13 to mark the group’s 10 year anniversary.
