New pizzeria set for Newbury
GelArto set to expand to serve pizza and ice cream from Weavers Walk premises
A NEW pizzeria and gelateria is set to open its doors in the centre of Newbury this summer.
Lusso will serve freshly-made artisan pizzas and homemade ice cream from its premises in Weavers Walk, off Northbrook Street, from the beginning of June.
The restaurant will be run by the same family who already serve ice cream from their GelArto van outside WH Smith in Northbrook Street.
Peter Lauer, who will be running the new venture with his sister Rita, said: “We’re very excited about the restaurant opening.
“We live locally and currently make all our ice cream in my sister’s kitchen so this was the perfect opportunity to expand.”
The family recently applied for a licence to supply alcohol and play recorded music from 8am to 11pm seven days a week.
However at a meeting of the town council’s planning and highways committee, councillors suggested that the level of music should be restricted at the venue.
Adrian Edwards (Con, Falkland) said: “I have no objection to this but there should be some sort of restriction on the recorded music, particularly if it’s going on until 11 o’clock at night.”
