New play equipment officially unveiled in Thatcham
The equipment was installed after a 12-year-old Thatcham boy, Hamish Hearn, approached the joint management committee (JMC) of Henwick Field and asked whether the old equipment, dating back to 1996, could be replaced with more up to date equipment.
The JAC agreed and 70k worth of developers' financial contributions and capital funds from West Berkshire Council was assigned to replace the equipment.
The park was officially re-opened by Trinity school pupil Hamish alongside Thatcham town mayor, John Boyd, and chairman of the JAC and district councillor, Keith Woodhams (Lib Dem, Thatcham West).
Hamish was also presented with a new set of pens for his work in making the project happen.
Mr Woodhams said: "We all had a great time and the weather was beautiful.
"The parents were saying it's much better than the previous equipment.
"We were very pleased; it was absolutely fantastic."
He added: "It was great that Hamish came to the JMC meeting.
"All the children are so exited."
