Chairman of governors Jay Armstrong said: “It's an honour to introduce our new headteacher – Lucy has a wealth of experience in education.

“From the first moment Lucy arrived at our school she had a smile to share with students and teachers alike.

“She impressed throughout the interview process, including the two-day final assessment we put final candidates through.

“We felt Lucy’s high energy, passion, and clarity of forward thinking to be the ideal for building the best possible future for the school and all the children.”

He added: “What impressed the most was Lucy always took time to speak to the children.

“She got down on their level, asked their names, what they were learning, and what they like about [the school].

“While there are many reasons we chose Lucy – a strong background in education, a detailed plan to take the school to the next level, and a direct approach in the way she engaged with us – it was the focus on the children that was the ultimate decider.

“Lucy put the children first, which was the most important attribute we laid down from the beginning of the headteacher appointment panel.”

Ms Smith said: “It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new headteacher of Hungerford Primary School.

“I have been teaching for 16 years and have been in senior leadership positions for the last eight years, although I still try to get into the classroom to teach as much as possible.

“My approach to school leadership is based on the philosophy that a well-rounded education encompasses both academic excellence and the holistic development of every individual.

“I strongly believe in fostering values and character development in students, in line with the individual ethos of a school.

“By emphasising kindness, honesty and respect, I aim to create a safe environment where students not only excel academically but also grow into compassionate and responsible citizens.

“I am excited to lead Hungerford Primary School and am dedicated to continuing the journey of development and excellence to ensure aspirational outcomes for all.

“I have high expectations of the children and will continue to expect excellent behaviour and a positive attitude to learning.

“I look forward to working with the whole community in moving Hungerford Primary School to being the school of choice in the local area.”
