Council considers new ‘safe’ dog walking area in Midgham
The council is reviewing an application for a new safe dog walking area.
Hounds and Bounds has proposed to set up a new dog walking facility with associated parking on agricultural land south of School Hill and west of Midgham Green.
Owners Debbi and Steve White currently run four sites at Bradfield, Sulhamstead Abbots and two in Tilehurst — where dogs are free to roam off-lead without risk.
Residents and dog walkers have welcomed the proposal.
Hollie Mullens said: “Being able to let dogs exercise off the lead safely is so important.
“It also means the general public will come across fewer dogs off the lead when walking around the local area.”
Linda Brown added: “By using these fields, it means the general public will come across fewer dogs off the lead when walking around our local area.”
The application site is currently used as a horse paddock and is in poor condition.
Hounds and Bounds have been managing enclosed walking fields since 2018.
It installs fences and says it utilises materials regularly used on agricultural and equestrian fields.
The council is due to publish its decision by February 23, 2024.
