New speed limits proposed for Lambourn Valley
Reductions to tackle speeding across the area
MOVES are finally afoot to deal with motorists’ speeding in selected Lambourn Valley hotspots.
The issue has been a perennial bone of contention between residents and town planners.
But now West Berkshire Council is proposing to introduce new 30mph, 40mph and 50mph limits on various roads in Lambourn, East Garston and Great Shefford.
The proposal document states the new orders are considered necessary “in the interests of road safety to reduce the speed of traffic and to introduce a speed limit consistent with the speed limits in other settlements in West Berkshire”.
A new 30mph limit is proposed for the B400 Upper Lambourn Road from a point 175m north west of its junction with Folly Road to a point approximately 175m to the north west; B400 Hungerford Hill between points 175m and 320m south west of its junction with Crowle Road; Baydon Road between its junction with Derby Close and a point 240m south west of this junction; High Street between a point 190m north west of its junction with Malt Shovel Lane and its junction with Uplands; also between a point 130m south east of its junction with the un-named road running north east to south west between High Street and the B400 and its junction with the B400; Maddle Road between its junction with High Street and a point 780m north west of that junction; Sheepdrove Road between its junction with the B4001 Wantage Road and a point 195m north east of this junction; Un-named road running north east from High Street (Upper Lambourn) between its junction with High Street and a point 250m north east of that junction; the entire length of Essex Place, Folly Road, Greenways, Malt Shovel Lane, Uplands Lane and the un-named road between the B400 and High Street (Upper Lambourn).
A new, 40mph limit is proposed for the B400 Upper Lambourn Road between a point 350m north west of its junction with Folly Road and a point 130m north west of its junction with High Street.
Also a new 50mph limit is proposed for Ermin Road – part of which is classified as the B4000 – between its junction with the A338 and a point 700m east of its junction with Baydon Road.
The Hungerford and Lambourn Valley neighbourhood police team has identified speeding in the Lambourn area as a priority for years.
A final decision is expected in the new year.
