New supermarket to open in Newbury next year

German supermarket chain Aldi had been looking for a location in Newbury for ten years before gaining planning permission for a store at the site of the former Renault dealership in London Road earlier this year.
Aldi has released more details about the store (artist's impression pictured) this week; confirming that the store will have five aisles, a 975sqm sales area, 68 car parking spaces and will open in March.
Meanwhile the store’s open hours will be 8am to 9pm between Mondays and Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
The supermarket will employ up to 22 members of staff, with fifty per cent of positions already filled by local residents, claim Aldi.
Spokesman for Aldi, Phillip Warner said: “We are delighted to announce that the construction of the new Aldi store in Newbury is well under way and we look forward to opening our doors to our new customers in March 2013. We have received a great deal of support from local people in the build up to the works starting on site and we are all really excited about being part of the Newbury community.
“Newbury has featured on our town requirements list for a new store for many years and we are confident that our discount format will offer the town a genuine alternative as well as a substantial saving on the cost of the average weekly shop.
