New trailer for Compton scouts
Donations from People's Postcode Lottery Trust
EXPEDITIONS for the 1st Compton Scout Group have been made easier as it has received a new equipment trailer.
The purchase of the trailer was made possible by the People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by People’s Lottery players, and funds raised by the group itself.
Cub Scout leader at 1st Compton, Keith Simms, said: “One of the biggest challenges when taking the Cubs and Scouts away for camps is the transportation of equipment. Parents may be happy to transport their post-camp child back, but think twice about a dirty wet tent in the boot of their car.
“This trailer will enable us to take all our equipment to and from camp, even if I have had to buy a new car to tow it.”
Some members of the group are using the trailer this weekend for a camp at the National Scout Archery Championships in Hertfordshire. The trailer can be used by other Scout groups in the area for a small cost-covering charge.
The troop has been growing since reforming five years ago. The Beavers, Cubs and Scout groups are all at capacity, with some 100 children enjoying the Scouting adventure week on week. The troop is always looking for adults to support the group.
