New trees mark 150th anniversary of Newbury-based firm
Members of staff recently wrapped up warm to plant 80 indigenous trees and shrubs in Goldwell Park, Newbury, organised by the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire.
Bayer spokeswoman Wendy Elsey, who coordinated the volunteers, said that staff had completed several volunteering activities to celebrate the company’s 150th year.
“This time we wanted to do something which would directly benefit local people in Newbury, help wildlife and the environment, and give something for Bayer staff to enjoy when they walk in the park, which is very close to our offices.”
“It gave us a great sense of achievement, and we hope local people will also enjoy the fruits of our labour in many years to come.”
The director of Volunteer Centre West Berkshire, Garry Poulson, said: “It’s been very rewarding working with Bayer in its important year and together we have achieved some great results.”
The Volunteer Centre West Berkshire co-ordinated the tree planting challenge as part of the Team Challenge West Berkshire programme.
