New vicar takes up post for Lambourn Valley
Step forward, the Rev Martin Cawte.
The newly appointed Archdeacon of Berkshire, the Ven Olivia Graham came to All Saints Church, East Garston, to conduct the special service.
The three churches of Lambourn, Eastbury and East Garston have, for many years, worked together under a Priest in Charge.
Now they have been formally brought together as the Benefice of the Lambourn Valley, with Mr Cawte now formally designated as the vicar.
Area Dean, the Rev Canon Rita Ball, was also involved in the proceedings at the service when Mr Cawte was required in front of clergy from the Newbury Deanery and parishioners to take oaths of Canonical Allegiance to the Queen and the Bishop.
He was then led to the door of the church by the Archdeacon and the Dean, where he was handed the keys of each of his churches by his churchwardens.
The churches will continue working as separate entities as well as coming together
for group services,
festivals and special events.
