Newbury ablaze with colour during bumper weekend of entertainment
As night falls the public will be invited to stroll along the waterways as they are brought to life by dozens of flickering braziers, fire artists, giant fire horns, spinning fire vortexes and music.
Join at any time from 8.15pm – last admission is 10pm, and the first 30 minutes is reserved for families.
The arrival point is West Mills Swing Bridge, then take a stroll down the canal towards Victoria Park for a spectacularly sparkling fire finale.
It is the highlight of a bumper day of entertainment for the whole family.
Olympic bronze medal winning hockey star Ann Panter will be on hand to offer advice and give a motivational speech at Hungerford’s John O’Gaunt School today.
She will be in town from 12.45pm and the event will be officially opened by Hungerford mayor Martin Crane.
Elsewhere, the Aldermaston and Wasing Show makes its return from 2pm to 6pm at the Old Mill in Aldermaston.
Highlights of this year’s event will include archery, a best dressed duck competition, craft displays, dog displays and competitions, falconry and ferrets, a strong man competition, classic cars and a fly past from Brimpton flying club.
Saturday will also see the second day of the three-day patronal festival at the St Mary the virgin church in Silchester in aid of the church bell fund from 10am until 5pm.
Guests will be treated to an exhibition of talents including lace making, paintings, poetry, musicians, hatter, flowers, organ music, photography, card makers, calligraphy, corn dollies, furniture, spinning and weaving and more.
An afternoon of sporting fun is in store at The Diamond, Greenham, as it puts on a fun and sports day from 12pm to 4pm.
A number of activities will be available to guests, including the good old-fashioned races typically associated with a school sports day.
There is also rugby action as the Newbury Blues play host to the Oxford Harlequins at Monks Lane, with kick-off at 4pm.
