Newbury and District Speakability Group enjoys park life

Members and carers visit Lepe Country Park and Exbury Gardens

MEMBERS of the Newbury and District Speakability Group were able to enjoy a day out to Lepe Country Park, near Southampton, recently.

The visit included a coffee break while taking in the superb seascape across the Solent, as well as lunch and a steam train ride around Exbury Gardens just around the corner.

The group, which provides support for people experiencing speech and communications difficulties following brain damage, usually as a consequence of a stroke, regularly holds excursions to help those affected by speech problems.

Stroke family support organiser for West Berkshire, Judy King, said: “Outings like these provide real-life opportunities for members, carers and volunteers to share their experiences through conversations and discussions.

“These interactions strengthen both confidence and the communication skills of our stroke survivors.”

The Newbury and District Speakability Group meets regularly in St Joseph’s Church Hall, Newbury.
