Newbury and Thatcham gridlocked following closure of two major routes

A section of Crookham Hill, south of the level crossing between the entrance to the south side car park and Chamberhouse Mill Lane in Thatcham, shut yesterday for a period of two weeks.
This is to allow utilities to be connected before a development of 13 houses is built at Rainsford Farm.
Boundary Road in Newbury also shut yesterday and will be closed until Friday.
This closure will allow the works to replace the notorious Boundary Road railway bridge to continue.
The closures meant that many of the surrounding roads have been gridlocked all day as people sat in traffic in the diversion routes.
Motorists have been taking to Twitter and Facebook to complain about the fact that both roads were closed at the same time and the impact this was having on their travels.
@paulallenmedia said that it had taken him 90 minutes to complete a 40 minute journey and Felicity Whitaker on Facebook described the impact today as “horrendous”.
What do you think of the closures? Should the two sets of roadworks have been completed separately? How have the closures affected your journey?
