Newbury bollards out of action
The rising bollards in Bartholomew Street are temporarily switched off but traffic restrictions are still in place
THE bollards in Bartholomew Street will remain out of action for the next few days, while West Berkshire Council issues access passes to a bus company which has taken over a contract.
Heyfordian has taken over a contract from the council to operate a service in Newbury as part of a tendered process.
The service was previously run by Newbury Buses.
The automatic rising bollards have temporarily been switched off until the access cards are issued, however, the traffic order preventing all vehicles except emergency vehicles from passing through the town between 10am and 6pm, remains in force.
West Berkshire Council spokesman, Phil Spray, said that the council was expecting the access cards to be issued in the next couple of days.
He said: "The Bartholomew Street bollards are currently not in operation because a bus company that is now operating routes through the town centre does not yet have the required access cards installed.
"We expect this to be done in the next few days.
"The traffic regulation order preventing vehicles from entering the pedestrianised zone remains in force, and is clearly sign posted."
