Newbury Building Society raise over £11,000 for Alzheimer’s Society

Newbury Building Society has raised more than £11,000 for charity after organising a variety of company fundraising events throughout last year.

A cheque for £11,660 was presented to Alzheimer’s Society at the building society’s Bartholomew Street office earlier this month.

Fundraising events included an employee quiz night, office dress down days and bake sales.

Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser Tim Waters said: “We are incredibly grateful to the staff and customers at Newbury Building Society for supporting Alzheimer’s Society through their fundraising.

“Like all charities, our income has taken a huge blow due to the pandemic, while demand for our vital dementia support services has sky-rocketed.

“Without the generosity of supporters like Newbury Building Society we simply could not keep up. The funds they raise will make a big difference to the lives of people affected by dementia and their families who have never needed us more.”

Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity, is the charity partner of Newbury Building Society’s head office.

A proportion of the money raised came from an annual donation made from the society’s charity savings account.

Society members who open this account can nominate one of Newbury’s nine current partner charities to which the society will make a sizeable donation.

Society project manager Traci Sharp said: “We are so proud to have raised such a significant sum of money for Alzheimer’s Society, who do excellent work for people who have been diagnosed with dementia.

“A huge thanks to all of our employees and members who have made this fundraising possible. We look forward to continuing our support throughout 2022.”
