Newbury businesses start voting on whether to form consortium
If the proposed Business Improvement District (BID) is adopted, each town centre business will pay a one per cent levy based on the rateable value of the size of their business, generating an estimated £1,060,000 over a five year period.
Ballot papers have been sent out to more than 600 businesses within the proposed district, which is bordered by Western Avenue in the north, Station Road in the south, the A339 in the east and Bartholomew Road north of the railway line in the west.
Businesses have until 5pm on Monday, April 30 to cast their vote.
Shoppers, visitors and residents of Newbury met Newbury’s BID team in the town’s Market Place during a roadshow last Thursday, with businesses invited to a breakfast at the Hoggit and Hoof restaurant during the morning.
